✩ CHARACTER INFORMATION
NAME: Mio Amakura
CANON: Fatal Frame II: Deep Crimson Butterfly
AGE: 18
CANON POINT: Post-ending
BACKGROUND: Bless wikis tbh

PERSONALITY: Mio puts her sister above everything else, including herself. Though shown to be more outgoing and livelier than her twin sister (running ahead through the woods, shouting and teasing Mayu for falling behind, etc), Mayu's fall and subsequent permanent injury to her leg changed their dynamic significantly. Though presumably still outgoing and bright, Mio's life since the accident in their youth has largely revolved around Mayu. She's gentler towards Mayu, constantly asking if she's alright, if her knee hurts, etc. and showing just how deep the guilt runs. She's a person consumed by that guilt, as she's always thinking about her mistakes that day (she tells Mayu once that she always thinks she should have been there, holding her hand so that even if she still fell, she wouldn't be falling alone).

Even when given the chance to escape on her own, Mio's loyalty is too strong to even consider it; she will remain in the village and work tirelessly towards her goal of freeing both of them-- it's either Mayu is saved, or both of them are saved. Mio doesn't even contemplate any other options. Presumably this translates into her life outside of terrifying ghost villages as well, where Mio might be rather single-mined, focusing on one solution and stubbornly committing to it. She's also shown to be rather selfless; not only is the promise between the twins ("we'll be together forever") implying Mio's willingness to give up and dedicate a lot of her life to Mayu, it takes on a very real meaning in one of the "perfect" endings on the game. In this ending the childhood promise becomes a full-on commitment, with Mio swearing to never leave Mayu's side. In another non-canon ending, Mio even gives up her sight to save Mayu and stay by her side.

This isn't to say that Mio's dependent on her sister or anything, as Mio is clearly the more independent and responsible one, taking care of her sister and adopting a more older sister role despite being the younger twin. She spends most of her time in the village alone, working tirelessly over puzzles and fighting ghosts with a grim determination to save her sister, taking the leader role both out of habit and her own ability. She's more of a leader than a follower, with an endless curiosity that shows in every tome, note, and diary Mio collects throughout the game. She wants to know everything about her situation, the village, and the rituals, collecting details where she can. She's also shown to be rather organized, as her memo includes all her observations and what she knows about different situations and people, keeping it all together for her to reference.

Though Mio starts off trying to be strong for both her own sake and her sister, the toll of being in this traumatizing place of never-ending night surely takes its toll on her. At first her only goal is to find a phone or someone to help them get out of the village, which becomes an increasingly desperate goal of saving her sister from being possessed by Sae. This becomes her single driving goal, almost an obsession as she runs around, constantly losing her sister (which further increases her guilt), and trying to find her again. That sort of thing has to take its toll, though it's never directly referenced in game, until it culminates in the "final showdown" between the sisters. Mio is exhausted and all she wants is to leave this place with her sister, who tells her they must complete the ritual Mio's tried so hard to get away from. In a way Mio breaks-- she completes her sister's wish to "become one" and it change her forever. There's no way to really come back from killing your twin. Supposedly the two were lost in the forest for about a week before, after the events of the game, Mio was found roaming the forest alone and was sent to live with her uncle.

Though Mio's canon point isn't from Fatal Frame III, the third game offers insight on how the events of her game impacted her. Namely, Mio's guilt has become borderline oppressive. She’s quieter, a bit sullen and wary or people. Though still stubborn and not afraid to ask questions, it takes longer for her to warm up to people. Also due to the events of the game, Mio's become much more depressed and less likely to take immediate action. Her guilt and the things she's had to do and see haunts her, and it's implied she can become volatile and lash out at people. In the third game, her uncle's letters include an apology in them to one of his friends for the "trouble" Mio caused him; though there's no further elaboration on what the nature of the trouble was, it can be implied that Mio was being difficult or acting out in some way, since her uncle had been relying on his friend to watch over her for a little while. She also gets cursed by the tattoo curse, which is drawn towards those with PTSD and survivor's guilt, implying Mio has it in spades (I say "implying" simply because it isn't directly stated in regards to Mio, but given the nature of the curse and Mio's experiences, it's more than likely). She also spends a lot of time sleeping because she can meet her sister in her dreams and beg forgiveness, preferring the dreams to her reality.
ABILITIES/POWERS: A considerable amount of spiritual power. While her sister’s was stronger, Mio is able to see and communicate with ghosts, and it’s likely they can possess her, though they wouldn’t be able to do so as easily as they could with Mayu.

Touching objects or people can allow her to catch glimpses of their pasts, the feelings associated with an object, or events that have happened around the person/object.
INVENTORY: - Camera Obscura
- Notes, Tomes, and Diaries, collected through her stay in the Lost Village. (I can provide a more detailed list, but there's 6 diaries, 7 note collections, 5 tomes)
- Her personal notebook
- Mayu's charm
- Spirit Stone Radio
- Spirit Stones
